The Women’s Royal Naval Service Benevolent Trust is proud to highlight the Women of the War project by In Their Glorious Company—an inspiring initiative dedicated to preserving the voices and experiences of the women whose lives were shaped by war.
Across the generations, women have played an indispensable role in defending the nation. They served in uniform, supported military operations, cared for the wounded, worked in factories, kept essential services running and maintained families and communities through some of the country’s most challenging times. Yet many of their personal stories remain untold.
The Women of the War project seeks to change that by recording and preserving first-hand accounts before they are lost. Through filmed interviews and personal testimonies, the project is creating a lasting archive that celebrates the courage, resilience and contribution of wartime women, ensuring their experiences can continue to educate and inspire future generations.
For the WRNS BT, this work has particular significance. Wrens made an extraordinary contribution throughout the Second World War, serving with distinction in operational, technical and administrative roles both at home and overseas. Their service helped pave the way for generations of women who have followed them into the Royal Navy.
Preserving these stories is about more than recording history. It is about recognising individual lives, celebrating service and ensuring that the sacrifices, achievements and resilience of wartime women are never forgotten.
